Announcing a new study to begin on Wednesday nights in Easter Season and beyond, staring April 11th. Title: “The Excellency of Christ and our Christian Calling” which will be led by our very own good teacher, friend, and brother in Christ, Pedro Rivera. Please spread the news of this study, invite friends and family, that we may grow ever more in the knowledge of our callings (vocatio) such that we might reflect excellence in our service to Christ and the world through Him who called us out of darkness.

From our teacher, Pedro:

Come join us every Wednesday as we ponder the glory, beauty, wisdom and the exceeding Excellency of the Lord Jesus Christ. Truly He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords yet He condescends to be with us, takes notice of us, gave His life as a ransom for us, forgives us our sins, and as a result brings true freedom, meaning and purpose to every aspect of our seemingly ordinary lives.

Let’s dig deep into God’s Word and explore how He takes our lives from sin and death and makes them holy, extraordinary, and most excellent. We have been given a tremendous gift which enables us to see Him as He really is and to love one another as He has loved us. We have the mind of Christ which is most excellent and His Spirit which most holy and through Him, no matter what our vocation and station in life, we are able to do all that He has called us to do because He is our strength, wisdom, and righteousness.

Come and let’s build each other up until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ (Eph 4:13).

On Sunday, February 12, Praise Lutheran Church will install the Reverend Derek Roberts as their new pastor. The installation service will be held at 4 p.m. at the church, located at 1850 Big Springs Road. A reception will follow the service. Several pastors and district representatives from the Memphis, Nashville, and Knoxville regions will participate in the laying on of hands and praying for the Holy Spirit’s blessing upon this Divine Call and the future work of the congregation and her new pastor. The public is welcome to attend.

Pastor Roberts previously served as Associate Pastor for 6 years at First Lutheran Church and School in Knoxville and as Campus Pastor for Lutheran Student Fellowship at the University of Tennessee. He and his wife, Gretchen, have three children: Kate, Sophia, and Jonathan.

Roberts is a seminary-trained and ordained pastor of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS), which has 2.4 million members in the U.S. as well as partner churches worldwide. Roberts preaches, teaches, writes, and speaks concerning the faith and life according to Christian Lutheran belief, which is centered in Jesus Christ, distinguishes Law from Gospel in the Scriptures, and promotes Reformation thought and culture from Martin Luther and the faithful teachers of the “one holy Christian and Apostolic Church.”

Praise Lutheran Church, founded in 2000, is a member church of the LCMS. The congregation moved to its current location on Big Springs Road in 2006, where they continue to worship, study, and serve the Maryville and Blount County community.

Sunday Worship Services are held at 10:30 a.m. Adult Bible Class and Sunday School begin at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday Mid-Week Bible Study is held at the church at 7:00 p.m., and a weekly Ladies Bible Study is held on Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. For questions or further information, please contact Pastor Roberts.
