A Lutheran Church in Maryville, TN
“Here is a lively Church that remembers the Lutheran way of worship, singing, preaching, teaching, serving, and praise our God in the spirit of the Reformation, the same spirit of truth and love, and focused on the mercy of God who forgives our many and daily sins,” says Pastor Derek Roberts.
At the heart of our worship is Jesus Christ. The means by which He comes is the Preaching of God’s Word (the Gospel) and receiving of Baptism and The Lord’s Supper (the Sacraments of the Lutheran church). We receive Holy Communion each Sunday of the month except the final Sunday, when we follow the order of Matins or other Service of the Word with preaching, hymns, and prayers. Our liturgy and hymns come from our synod’s hymnal Lutheran Service Book. Read the Introduction (pdf) of our hymnal from the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.
We value education and the raising of children in the Christian faith and life. We engage children and adults in weekly Sunday School, Bible Study, and confirmation instruction. An annual Vacation Bible School is held in the summer. We value the education that is expressed faithfully in Lutheran church music and praise. We have a choir that rehearses weekly and welcomes you to add to the beauty of our God’s worship. Praise also hosts a variety of events through our church for young and old. For example, we meet for weekly lunches and in home Bible studies, host an annual congregational picnic, and schedule potlucks with a purpose. We meet for Lenten and Advent season meals before worship. Occasional hikes, retreats, and speakers round out the picture of what we do in addition to weekly worship of our God. We also exist to serve our community in various ways through our vocations and special collections (our life of mercy and supporting of missions). We promote our synod’s seminaries, missionaries, and disaster relief organizations. Our life together as Lutherans in our Lord Jesus Christ is abundant and brings us great joy.
Above all, our Lord is here to help us grow in faith in God and in love for our neighbor. We live out our life in the forgiveness of sins into which we have been called. If you are looking for a faithful Lutheran church near the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, or in the lower Knoxville, Rockford, Louisville, Friendsville, Lenoir City, Walland, Townsend, or, of course, the city of Maryville in Blount County, Tennessee, then you’ve come to the right place.
